Author Profile: John A. Rush, Ph.D., is Professor of Anthropology at Sierra College, Rocklin, California, teaching Physical Anthropology and Magic, Witchcraft, Myth, and Religion. He and his wife manage a feral cat community and conduct on-going research into feline behavior to be published in the near future. They also maintain a large herb garden where students and faculty learn about the cultivation and preparation of numerous medicinal and magical herbs and the myths that surround them. Dr. Rush is also a retired Clinical Anthropologist and Medical Hypnotherapist in private practice from 1972 to 2008. Dr. Rush’s publications include Witchcraft and Sorcery: An Anthropological Perspective of the Occult (1974), The Way We Communicate (1976), Clinical Anthropology: An Application of Anthropological Concepts within Clinical Settings (1996), Stress and Emotional Health: Applications of Clinical Anthropology (1999), Spiritual Tattoo: A Cultural History of Tattooing, Piercing, Scarification, Branding, and Implants (2005), The Twelve Gates: A Spiritual Passage through the Egyptian Book of the Dead (2007), Failed God: Fractured Myth in a Fragile World (2008), and soon to be published, The Mushroom in Christian Art (2010).
